Waste Permit Application

Before you make your waste permit application

New policy: From the 1st February 2024, private use domestic cars, including people carriers, twin cab pick-ups, SPV’s and campervans with windows and seats in the rear will require a permit when delivering DIY waste only.

The following vehicles require a permit at all times:

  • Any van, private or trade weighing less than 3.5 tonnes
  • Trailer / Horse Box more than 5ft but no longer than 9ft long
  • Single cab pick-up truck or 4 x 4 with no rear seats and no rear windows or with removable or canvas canopy

Photographic proof of ID linking you to the address the waste is coming from will be required e.g. Driving Licence or Passport and Utility Bill.

Permit requirements and allowances

  • Van or commercial vehicles
    • Households delivering waste in a non domestic vehicle (e.g. a van) are allocated 12 permits per annum. For accuracy only 1 permit can be applied for at one time. All waste types including DIY waste can be delivered using these permits.
    • A maximum of 3 non domestic vehicle permits can be applied for per 7 days.
    • Permits used for DIY waste from non domestic vehicle allocation will be automatically deducted from the Domestic Car allowance.
  • Domestic cars
    • Private use domestic cars require a permit when delivering chargeable DIY waste ONLY
    • Households limited to 4 DIY waste permits in a 28 day period.
  • All vehicles
    • Only household waste is permitted. No Commercial or trade waste can be taken to the HWRC.
    • Permits that are not used including failure to attend your chosen time slot cannot be reallocated to your allowance.
    • Households are limited to 4 DIY waste permits in a 28 day period. A limited amount of DIY waste can be delivered free of charge regardless of vehicle used to make the delivery. Above this limit, the existing charging structure will apply.
    • DIY waste limits. Households are limited to the equivalent of a 6 cubic yard skip per year. This is approximately 150 builders’ bags.
